Privacy Policy

Information We Collect

When you sign up for the Ephemera beta, we collect:

  • Your email address — required to send you beta access invitations
  • An optional comment — if you choose to leave one on the signup form
  • The environmental conditions at the moment you sign up — time of day, season, weather, and moon phase. Ephemera is a condition-based music tool, so we capture these as a creative keepsake of your signup moment. They are not used for analytics, advertising, or profiling

We do not use advertising trackers, cross-site tracking, or browser fingerprinting, and we never sell your data. For product improvement and reliability we use privacy-friendly, aggregate tooling only:

  • Vercel Web Analytics — cookieless, aggregated usage metrics (e.g. page views). It does not set cookies, build personal profiles, or track you across other websites
  • Vercel Speed Insights — anonymous performance timings (page load, responsiveness). No cookies, no individual identification
  • Sentry — error monitoring. When something breaks, Sentry records technical details about the error, which can include your IP address and browser/device information, so we can diagnose and fix it. It is not used for advertising or behavioral tracking

Local Browser Storage

This website stores small amounts of data in your browser's local storage to improve your experience. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers:

  • Visit history — a list of dates you visited, used to skip the loading screen for returning visitors (last 30 days, stored locally)
  • Interactive experience progress — which parts of the interactive demo you have explored, so your progress is saved between visits
  • UI preferences — layout calibration settings for the interactive experience
  • Animation deduplication — flags to avoid repeating visual effects within a single session (cleared when you close the tab)
  • Device capability detection — your browser's graphics capabilities are checked locally to choose the right visual quality for your device. This information never leaves your browser and is not sent to any server

You can clear this data at any time through your browser's settings. The website will continue to work normally without it.

Camera & Webcam Features

Some optional interactive features — such as the Dimensional “Conductor” mode — can use your webcam as an input, so your hand movements shape the music. This is strictly opt-in: the camera is off by default and only turns on after you explicitly enable it, and you can turn it off at any time (your browser also shows its own camera indicator while it is active).

All video is processed locally in your browser, in real time. We do not record, store, upload, or transmit any video, images, or hand-tracking data to our servers or to any third party, and we do not perform facial recognition or any identity detection.

The only related network activity is a one-time download of the open-source hand-tracking model and supporting code from public content-delivery networks (jsDelivr and Google), which — like any file download — receive your IP address to deliver the files.

How We Use Your Information

Your email address is used to send you beta access invitations, product updates, and important announcements about Ephemera. Your signup moment (conditions at the time you signed up) is included in your confirmation email as a personal touch. We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Cookies

This website does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. Any cookies present are strictly necessary for the functioning of the site (e.g., bot protection during signup).

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Ephemera:

  • Supabase — stores beta signup data securely
  • Resend — delivers transactional emails
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — bot protection during signup (no tracking cookies)
  • Upstash — rate limiting to prevent abuse
  • Vercel Web Analytics — cookieless, aggregated usage analytics (page views and basic navigation). No cross-site tracking and no personal profiles
  • Vercel Speed Insights — collects anonymous, aggregated performance metrics (page load times, responsiveness) to help us keep the site fast. It does not set cookies, identify individual users, or track browsing behavior
  • Sentry — error and performance monitoring; processes your IP address and technical error context so we can diagnose crashes. Not used for marketing

These services process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy policies. No personal data is shared with these services beyond what is necessary for their function.

Data Retention

We retain your signup data for as long as you remain on the beta waitlist or as an active user. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal information we hold about you. You may also unsubscribe from communications at any time using the link provided in our emails.
